At an art gallery opening in Bucktown...a rather fashionable crowd. Didn't have the STITCH sign with me, but thought I'd put these up anyway. In the beginning I asked a few people to pretend like they were holding a sign (planning on photoshopping it in or something) but then I sort of gave up...

The gallery space made for a good backdrop for some pictures- enjoy!

Freshman Midori McSwain is in the communication school here at 'ol N.U. I took her picture while desperately trying to sell Krispy Kreme to crotchety students at her dorm. Midori says she is very much into sneaker culture and is known to rock some pretty sick shoes.

Corinne Bernstein, '11

A freshman at WCAS, Corinne Bernstein, has taken the popular collegiate look of footless tights sans tunic and turned it into something far less ordinary. The first thing to notice about her outfit is the beautifully embroidered blue shawl that her brother gave her. Next up is the shrunk blue jacket that layered on top of her sleeveless puffer, allowing her to play with different textures combinations. Finally, the suede boots compliment the outfit by adding yet another layer.

Sonja looks fashionable and comfortable, with her outfit that has casual elements and classic accents. She enjoys looking nice and reading the occasional fashion blog. Leah proves that the marriage of black and brown can be successful with her vintage look. To achieve this success, she combines a brown sweater with a black houndstooth pattern found at a thrift store, leggings from Target, and boots from Madrid. She totes a colorful bag to bring life her style, which she calls loud and thrifty. Leah is a huge fan of old school clothing and thrift shopping. In stores, she usually seeks something 20 years old and unique.

Chelsea has a simple, yet unique look. The self-named eclectic hippie says that fashion plays a role in her day-to-day life and cute, flat shoes are the greatest facet of fashion. Her outfit is built with a pink skirt from a thrift store, shoes from Banana Republic, and a bag from a Brooklyn thrift store. It is the plaid jacket from H&M and the “wife-beater” tank from Target that make this outfit different.

Hippie fop

Christian calls himself a “hippie fop,” decked out in an outfit in which each piece has a story. The scarf belongs to a friend, the jacket was his father’s in the ‘60s, the boots were his uncle’s in the ‘70s, and the jeans were bought by his aunt in Germany. The skinny tie and sweater are both from the Salvation Army, while the shirt [that Christian admits is sized for a young boy] is by Dior and was found at Unique Petite. Christians loves fashion and has a big problem with consumerism; so, he only purchases old clothing. But he feels that no matter what you are wearing, fashion is a fun, creative outlet.

A freshman at McCormick School of Engineering, Can Kisagun strikes a pose in front of his dorm. If only those were actual bikes behind him! Can is wearing a plain white Gap t-shirt, Urban Outfitters grey cardigan, H&M skinny jeans and a green/beige scarf which is a great change from the red/black/white ones. He finishes the look with a pair of white sneakers from Marc by Marc Jacobs, which he is very proud to own. He should be.

Her faux snakeskin oversized bag she’s using for her books is a stylish alternative to the canvas totes/backpacks.

Sahsha believes Old Navy is fashion’s greatest gift. She describes herself as very sensible when she’s shopping. “I buy what I like and wear what’s right for the weather. Cold plus mini-skirts equals stupid.” Sahsha is dressed in a black thermal from Old Navy paired with black, grey, red and white plaid pants found in a thrift store and boots from Foot Locker. In two words, the fashionable freshman simply states thather style is “pretty awesome.”

A purple-ish hue is Bentley’s cue as he conjures a “mauve storm.” Bentley is dressed in a V-neck sweater from American Apparrel, a Levi’s collared shirt, a tie from his dad, a pair of Levi’s jeans, and flip-flops. Bentley explains that fashion is important to him and so is matching. “In middle school, a girl made fun of me because I couldn’t match. So, I learned to match… and I never saw her again.”

Her jeans are by Cheap Monday, a Swedish jean-maker, and her shoes are from Target. She looks to style editorials and the runway for fashion inspiration and welcomes the idea of “wearable art.”
